Changing midday or going home plans for students

As you can imagine, a middle school office is an extremely busy place!

We are experiencing a high volume of calls from parents wanting to change midday plans, including giving permission for students to be off campus, and wanting to change going home plans for students.  We understand that sometimes emergencies and unforeseen circumstances necessitate these calls.  However, we are asking that you please have a plan for your child’s day prior to their leaving for school in the morning.  We simply cannot field this many calls and get messages to students for last minute changes that are not emergent in nature.  If you are allowing your child to be off campus for any reason during the day, you should report to the office to pick them up and sign them out.  We will only accept written permission for students to be removed from campus by another party, unless they are listed as an emergency contact.

Thank you for your understanding!

Gift Cards Needed for LOJ Families

gift-card

Fall has arrived and the weather is already turning cooler.  Our counselors are in need of gift cards for some of our families who could benefit from some assistance.  Should you choose to donate, one of the ideal places to obtain a gift card is Fred Meyers or Walmart, as they sell clothing and shoes in addition to food.  Any amount is appreciated.  Please contact one of the counselors if you have any questions, and thank you in advance for your generosity.

Parking Lot Etiquette & Safety

crosswalk

Just some reminders about the LOJ parking lot, specifically before school at drop off and at after school pick up.

We have thirteen full size buses, some special needs buses, and two after school activity vans that run to and from Lake Oswego Junior High daily.  We also have a number of parents who choose to drive.  Should you choose to drive your student to/from school, please observe the following rules:

  • Please use the car lane and wait until you are at the front of the building before letting your child out.  Please do not let children out in the driveway leading up to the school or in the middle of where cars are parking.
  • Please ask your student to use the crosswalk.  They are currently scheduled to be repainted to improve their visibility, as they are very worn.  Once they are complete, it should be fairly obvious to both buses and drivers where they are.  Please do not block the crosswalks.
  • As you are entering and exiting the driveway (this is often a very long line at the light on Country Club Road), please watch the lower crosswalks and keep an eye out for the students who are coming up from the church parking lot.
  • Please NEVER use the lawn to exit the parking lot onto the driveway.  While we realize that the grass area is sometimes used for parking during football games and events, it is not a safe thoroughfare for daily traffic (and it ruins our grounds).
  • If you anticipate needing to come into the building, please park.  Please observe our fire lanes and keep them clear.  The curbage is slated to be repainted as well.

We appreciate your help in keeping our students safe.  Please remember that over 900 students and 80+ adults are all trying to get to the same destination at the same time, so adhering to these rules is critical.  We are happy to answer any questions you may have.
