Saying Goodbyes to Some Fantastic Teachers

As the end of the year approaches, it is time for us to say some goodbyes to staff that are off on new journeys!  We wish all of these Sailors good luck, happiness, and calm seas.

Jim White, Math Teacher, is retiring after 29 years of teaching.  Jim is a beloved teacher who is fiercely dedicated to students.  We will miss his contagiously happy presence in our hallways.

Stuart Champion, PE Teacher, is off to sandy beaches in San Diego.  Stuart has instilled a passion in our students for fitness and nutrition as well as compelling them to be amazing young adults through his teaching and his example.  Best of luck, Stuart!

Darian Douglas, Orchestra Teacher, leaves us to continue his pursuit of excellence at the University of Oregon in a two year Graduate Music Program.  Darian has grown our student orchestra numbers immensely by providing a safe, kind, inspiring place for students to take risks and explore music.  We will miss him more than we can express.

Jan Michael, Learning Specialist, will be moving to the elementary school level to continue her work in that same role.  Jan brought a passion for equity, a commitment to all students, and a determination to see every kid succeed.  She won’t be far away, but we will be greatly missing her expertise and leadership.  Best of luck to Jan!

Autumn Hawkins, Speech & Language Pathologist, will be moving on to another district next year.  Autumn has provided a nurturing, welcoming room for all of the students in need of her services, and we will miss her dearly.

Sharon Ness, Pathways Teacher, will also be headed to the elementary level to be a Learning Specialist.  Sharon has done amazing things with our Pathways program and has grown our peer mentor program as well as given new opportunities to her students.  Her commitment to inclusion is admirable and so valued.  Best of luck to Sharon!

Finally, Ian Reeves (Profe), Spanish Teacher, will be leaving to teach at Dayton High School to be closer to his home.  We are so thankful that Ian has made that 66 minute commute (one way!) every day and sacrificed time at home to stay with us at LOJ.  He has made a huge impact on his students and fellow educators that will never be forgotten.  We love you, Ian!
